Hello again, Mr Rickman...

So, I have finally watched all of the Harry Potter films and have nearly finished the first book and will soon be onto the second one. Why did I leave it so long, you may ask? Well, if I am honest when the booked first came out, I wasn't too bothered as it was a children's book, but when people said I should give it a go... well, I just didn't like her writing. (Sorry to JK. Rowling and her fans). And so I put it away and didn't give it a second thought.
Then of course came the films. Now, Alan Rickman is my favourite actor. I have always thought he is the best thing since sliced bread, and I still do. (I was the weird teenager who instead of having posters of boybands on her wall, had pictures of Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman, Luc Besson, and Bill Nighy) So why did I not go see the films at the cinema? I guess I was worried that I would really hate Alan Rickman's (and then when he finally came along, Gary Oldman's) character, or that the films would be awful and I'd be really disappointed.

And then came the Fans.

I have come across some scary fan-girls in my time... but Jesus Christ. Now, I am not saying that all HP fan-girls are batshit insane, but from what I have seen a lot of them are. The only scarier ones are Twilight fans, but I digress.

It was the horrifying fan-fiction/art and down right obsessiveness that scared me away from this series. And I know what you're thinking, if it was so bad I didn't have to look, I could have just ignored it. And yes, I did to the best of my ability, but with the internet being the weird beast it is, these things do pounce on you from time to time, and I will admit, sometimes I am far too curious for my own good.

But, after some coaxing from my friends, I finally watched all the films and I must say I really enjoyed them. A part of me is a little disappointed that I didn't go to see them at the cinema (apart from Deathly Hallows Part 1, which was rather spectacular on the big screen) but it was rather fun to be wrapped up in blankets on the couch with my housemate and making silly jokes/shouting things at the screen.

And of course, Alan Rickman.

Oh dear lord that man! Well done, Harry Potter, I fear you have gained yourself yet another Snape fan-girl. I sort of (ish) understand why the fans are so... out there for this series. It really drags you in and makes you care for the characters, which I was rather impressed with. It was a given from the start that I would be giving Mr Rickman my full attention whenever he was on screen, but I wasn't expecting to be quite so enthralled. I could listen to that voice all damn day and even the way he moves is fascinating. I do love a good dark, mysterious, complicated character.

So there you have it. The Potter Bug finally got me. Be it a little late, but still. I am very much looking forward to Part 2 in July, despite Part 1 making me cry like a big jessie!
